Estamos tristes mas felizes! Estamos tristes porque talvez alguem que nos e querido ganhou a paz eterna. Outros talvez porque alguem que nos e querido sofre e nao entendemos porque. Alguns de nos talvez tentamos conciliar a dor com a alegria...nao e facil. Sei la...alguns por ter a felicidade de dar um abraco e beber uns copos com um amigo do outro lado do oceano. Cada um de nos tera a sua historia que e toda ela maravilhosa mas eu, e permitam este desabafo, estou feliz e realizado embora morto de saudades da minha Mae e da minha querida Monica, mas ansioso pela chegada da minha netinha.....due May 13th???

Independentemente da minha ou da tua historia ha uma que requer toda a nossa atencao e suporte. Todos sabemos que o Antero e o Joni decidiram fazer um desafio a eles proprios ao decidirem viajar da Florida a Yonkers em bicicleta. Nao vou adiantar mais detalhes mas sim deixar a vossa imaginacao e iniciativa para darmos todo o suporte e cooperacao para que este desafio proprio a que estes charoleses se determinaram seja coroado pela satisfacao pessoal de conseguir fazer algo reservado aqueles que sempre buscam desafiar os limites da condicao humana...pelo menos a minha. Vamos todos dar o nosso apoio as estes 2 charoleses a assegurarmos que a sua aventura seje saudavel e segura. Second day takes us thru the back roads of georgia and south carolina to the very charming seaside city of Charleston south Carolina.We road about 119 miles some small rolling hills, great roads and scenery. Savored some local cuisine for lunch, fried chicken and collord greens, very tasty. Got to Charleston at about 3pm. Did about 20 mph (very good). The rest of our day was pleasant but uneventful. See pics attached. Oh, and if you are wondering why there is a pic with a state trooper, it's because we were pulled over on the "95",speeding, no not speeding, but trooper Gibson kindly informed us that it was illegal for us to ride our bikes on the "95". With his gentle manner he told us to jump the barbed wire fence aloneside the hwy or risk an planned ride to the local 5 star hotel namely the county jail. We quickly chose the first option. Great laugh. Another long day tomorrow. Good night all.

Shorter with some climbs, we road from beautiful Charleston, SC to Myrtle Beach SC about 97 miles. We started the day with the longest steepest climb yet, nothing gets your legs burning like a nice long steep climb at 6:30 in the morning. The rest of the ride was good close to 20 mph average, some long stretches of 23-26 mph. Arrived in Myrtle Beach early afternoom got some rest had some Mexican food (cinco de Miao) had lots of beer, we have to keep hydrated you know and that's it. Well must get some sleep, my partner is on his second hour of sleep already. Enjoy the pics and once again thank you all for your support it really means alot to us. One last painfull note never skimp on biker shorts I can tell you it's not worth it!

This is one of the hapiest days of my life. My grandchild, Ava Raquel, was born on this day. In addition, I see that Joni and Antero are doing so well on their journey to come home to Yonkers. Today they pedal 154 miles....can anyone believe it!!!! This is not normal....now I'm convinced they got to have pistons while we earthlings just have legs. Each day of their journey (journeys have no destination, no end...they go on and on...everyday) and every stroke of the pedals is an example to all of us that determination with some sacrifices can achieve great things and happiness. What these 2 guys are doing shall be a lesson to all that any one can achieve great goals if one is willing to pay the price...and take the steps...or the pedals, in this case. On this happy day let's wish each other a great journey!!!! Ride on my brothers!!!!

Hello all today was our longest day yet, an also the longest time I've ever spent on a bike, 154 miles from Myrtle Beach So Carolina to the quiet town seaside Cedar Point North Carolina, still maintaining good speed, about 20 mph over rolling hills and some steeper bridges and over passes, weather has been great and as you may guess we go thru quarts of Gatorade and water. We road alongside Camp Le June??, and saw a lot marines and attack helicopters, war planes etc. We will be riding the outer banks of North Carolina the next 2 days, it looks like a road in the middle of an ocean, should be great. Although nothing compared to the great event that happened today to Dennis and Laura Santaviccia(Pinho). Truly something to celebrate. We wish the best. antero, WOW...at first i didn't understand the reason behind your incredible adventure...and then i spoke to aurora, she said it was on your list. you definitely gave me something to think about...i was very disappointed with myself. i don't have a list. Best day yet, both the blistering speed (clocked first 66 miles in 3 hours) and the scenery. We traveled a total of 176 miles, 60 by 2 ferry boats and 116 by bike. The outer banks is amazing, so pristine. We are overnight in the very romantic Rodanthe, location of the best selling book and not so good movie. Ahhh stage 6, today was a multi purpose day, primarily a rest day, although we did ride 40 miles early this morning. We stopped at Kitty Hawk, home of the first flight by the Wright Brothers, a great new hotel right on the beach with a great pool (indoor and outdoor) excellent jacuzzi (very therapeutic), just what the doctor ordered after 5 day of strenuous riding. It was a picture perfect day,weather wise,for a rest day, not to mention that it fell right in the middle of our tour. I love it when a plan comes together. Well gotta go,planning tomorrow's stage, It looks pretty scary! Fill you all in mananha. Bad noite.. Enjoy the pics. Antero

Well this was the day! The fun started today. As I said on yesterday's summery, it was scary. For all of you non cyclists out there please take note, the 3 things cyclist's hate most are potholes, steep hills, and wind. Today we were bombarded with all 3. The wind made the 162 miles we road today, feel as if we were pulling a loaded freight train behind us. Add the beating sun and it made for the most challenging day yet. 12 hours on the bike which at this point feels like is a permanent part of my body. Kitty Hawk South Carolina to Richmond, Virginia was a stretch on hind site it should took 2 days. Life is a ride and when you become too focused on the destination you can't enjoy the ride. I really appreciate all of the support every one pf you have given us. It gets us thru the tough parts of this journey. Thank you! Antero

Yes, Virginia is very hilly. Today we road route "1" from Richmond Va to Alexandria Va (just south of Washington D.C) 113 miles of steep climbs, heavy traffic with little or no should in some areas, still it was an enjoyable ride, tough but enjoyable. Lots of farms, a couple vineyards even, cows, horses mules etc. Obviously our average speed had decreased considerably mainly due to the hills and the wind. Well...that's amazing you guys did Washington already...that brings great memories of our 3-day Face of America bicycle trip from Ground Zero to the Pentagon back in 2002 in memory of 9/11 2001. Baltimore is a great city also and was my home office base and headquaters during my international corporate venture. Great memories specially when I met some of our friends there working at GM at the time, like Carlos Martins. Great memories! In any event, it is amazing (but not surprising for those of us that know your determination and resolve) to see today's pictures of your tour of Washington's icons and Baltomore. Speaking of pictures...is it my impression you 2 are looking more and more alike? When I see pictures with the helmets on I can not tell who's who. rainy and ended the same way. We got a late start due to early rain in Alexandria and road to DC, where we toured all the sights by bike, nice way to see washington in a short amount of time. Had lunch (the best bread pudding ever) got some needed supplies at the bike shop and then continued north to Baltimore Maryland. Rain started again so we had to stop,too bad didn't quite work off that bread pudding. This is the first day the weather has held us back (I have a hook with mother nature as my riding partner). It was still a good day, got in about 68 miles which I believe brings us above 1000 miles traveled so far. Shooting for Piladelphia tomorrow, city of brotherly love and famous cheese steak sandwiches. Good night all. Antero

Another battle with the hills and the head wind and some more war wounds to boot. Tough day, road from Baltimore to Philadelphia about 107 very hilly miles. Tomorrow is questionable as the route is quite complicated. Stage 11 The finish line Well this is the last stage summery that I will be posting, and this time I am writing on my laptop from the confort of HOME! That's right we made home to our dear families and friends which we missed sooo much. Stage 11 Took us from Philadelphia to Yonkers, NY. About 114 miles of relatively flat roads. We did the best possible to arrive Wendsday, both because of potential bad weather on thursday and a firm order or,, I mean request by Grandpa himself. I'll let you know that we braved some trecherous roads to abide grammps. Non the less we are home, mission accomplished with energy to spare. I, and I think I can speak for Joni as well, can't express how happy we were to see everyone on South Broadway as we came up that hill, our families, friends, workers amazing. I am also very happy, and quite astonished by the way, at the life this adventure took on to itself. For me it was everything I imagined and more(sores, scrapes and bumps)It was a challange of will, determination and commititment to a ride. One of those things we often think about doing but never do, mark this one DONE! For all who followed this journey, I thank you for your interest, your kindness and warm wishes,I hope, if nothing else, it gave a little break from the hustle and bustle that is life. Great 55 mile ride this morning. Six Tugas, including Antero, took the road at 7am for a nice and relaxing ride over the regular course up to Route 35. The Eastview and Rockafeller Estate hils were burned up by Antero like a hot knife through butter.
